Kindergarten through Seventh Grade Technology    
Kindergarten
Students are exposed to some basic keyboarding, word processing, and network navigation skills. They also gain exposure in using drawing, paint and shape tools. The computer programs they are introduced to are Kid Pix, Kidspiration, and Jump Start. 

Pre-1st
Students are exposed to additional basic keyboarding, word processing, selecting a printer, and identification and proper care of hardware. The computer programs used by students are Kid Pix, Kidspiration, and Jump Start. 

1st Grade
Students are introduced to Internet safety, using Providence’s online databases, and taught basic navigation skills to pre-selected Internet sites. Additional skills learned are opening and saving a file to a location on the network, identifying the functions of a word processor and spreadsheet, understanding basic computer terminology, and selecting a network printer. The computer programs used at this level are Word, Excel, Jump Start, Kidspiration, Kid Pix, and Print Shop. 

2nd Grade
Students are taught the concept of the Internet as a network of worldwide computers. Students are given exposure in creating a story or poem in a word processor with insertion of graphics into the document. Students learn how to modify images. They begin to be exposed to online quizzes and activities. The computer programs used in 2nd grade are Word, Jump Start, Kidspiration, Kid Pix, Inspiration, and Print Shop. 

3rd Grade
Students are introduced to a formal keyboarding program the last quarter of the school year. PowerPoint basics and are also introduced. Students are given exposure in Sketchpad to study symmetry, measurement, coordinate geometry, and solid and plane figures. Programs available for students are Word, PowerPoint, Kid Pix, Kidspiration, Inspiration, Print Shop, Math Blaster, and Sketchpad. 

4th Grade
Students do a formal keyboarding program during the 1st semester. They compose at the keyboard, produce a research project, learn how to set up a Bibliography, learn formatting skills, use peer editing tools, flip, rotate and edit images, gain skills in PowerPoint and Sketchpad. The students are introduced to Podcasting. Programs available for student use are MS Office Suite, Kidspiration, Inspiration, Kid Pix, Print Shop, Sketchpad, Math Blaster, Zip Zap USA and Garage Band. 

5th Grade
Students gain additional skills in the use of MS Office applications. They are introduced to Publisher. They learn how to create charts and graphs in Excel, prepare slide shows in PowerPoint, and insert photos and hyperlinks in documents. The students use Sketchpad to draw figures and determine area and perimeter of those drawings. Programs available for student use are MS Office Suite, Kid Pix, Inspiration, Print Shop, and Sketchpad. 

6th Grade
Students advance in their use of Spreadsheets in Excel and the Tools in Word. They use one of the presentation applications in producing a project and Word for their research paper in Social Studies. Students are instructed in the use of digital cameras and introduced to Photoshop. They use GeoBlaster for tessellations in Math. Programs available for student use are MS Office Suite, Adobe Suite, Inspiration, Sketchpad, GeoBlaster, and Print Shop. 

7th Grade 
Students give PowerPoint presentations on different religions of the world. They create PowerPoint slides to journal the scientific process of plant life, and use Sketchpad in their Geometry curriculum. They use the MS Office Suite for various subject projects. Students are also introduced to digital imaging with Photoshop. Programs available for student use are MS Office Suite, Adobe Suite, Inspiration, Sketchpad, and Print Shop.
